Coming up empty..... 04/27/2010
The past few days have been grey and overcast. The times I tried to go out exploring for anything photogenic were unsuccessful. My eye just could not catch anything. On the way back to my home, driving down island on north road, I did see these fiddle-heads breaking out of the ground. Add Comment All Manual 04/25/2010
All day was overcast and rain. But I did manage a few shots. My goal today was to set all my setting myself. In other words all manual, white balance,f-stop and shutter speed. It is much more gratifying to have this work. So the practise continued! Did see something uncommon today. Twenty swans all together in sengekantacket pond. It was difficult to wait for them all to pose for me, but it was a nice experience. Flower and Landscape 04/20/2010
I did not have much time today to take any photos. All I managed was flowers and a landscape. The flowers were blooming on my front porch and the landscape was in the State Forest. But it was a good day.... Spring Trees 04/18/2010
My favorite locations to shoot photography are the quite ones, where I have lots of room to walk around and set up, with no real hassels to slow me down and a nice scene in front of me. Today by the Catholic church in Tisbury it was just like that. Warm weather, bright spring time trees and a casual atmosphere...I love it! Tale of two houses. 04/14/2010
For such a small place like the vineyard there is a great diversity in the make up of the towns. Someday I may make a photogrphic study of this wonder. But for now here are two houses. Can you pick the one from West Tisbury and the one from Edgartown? the Twilight Zone 04/13/2010
Today I made my way to the Gay Head cliffs. It was a long walk made even harder due to my wicked heavey camera bag and tripod. Sometimes I feel like I am lugging an army pack and the tripod is the rifle! Out on some long mission hike. But it was a glorious day and not another person was around. Times like this I can imagine that I am the only person on the entire island The sunlight was very harsh, I timed my arrival too early and the sun was still high and glaring. On the way home I could not resisit the urge to visit menemsha as the sun went down. I had no plans to visit here but so glad that I did. it was calm and quite. Very Zen like, I took deep breathes and meditated as my camera took in all that it could see. As the sun set I found myself in the Twilight Zone. Quiet,Quiet.. 04/11/2010
After most of my bothersome chores were done. fun things like raking, food shopping and laundry, I tried a little photography. I just caught the tail end of the day but the light was gorgeous. I was trying out my new circular polarizer and I really enjoyed the effects it gave me. Tisbury harbor is a great place to be by myself and try some photography. It is so peaceful and quiet. The moment was spoiled though when a SSA employee said no photos allowed, so I had to leave! Wet sneakers. 04/06/2010
All week I have been upset at the bleakness and bareness of the island. But looking back at my latest shots I see vivid colors! They were hiding and not out in the open but my eye was scanning for anything bright. And in the dullness there they were-colors! I hope more is to follow. I started in Edgartown where I knew they were doing a controlled burn at the Katama Airfield. Like always I was not expecting anything to come of it. After pulling over to the side of the road I was just in time for them to light it up. The flames were dramatic and I wanted to hop the fence and get closer but I do not think they would take too kindly to that. Lucey vincent is a favorite beach of mine in the off season. The wave were slowly rolling up the shore and then more slowly flowing out. It was fun just to watch and and take my time with my tripod. The only draw back was once again I soaked my sneakers, a common occurence for me. Driving home via state beach brought another surprise. The water and shoreline was dull and dark but the setting sun just lit up a tiny spot of water in front of this rowboat, another great photo moment for me. Tough Light 04/05/2010
Another tough day for me. The short time I had to go out was not too productive. It was a sunny day but it was a strong glaring light. It was very hard for me to shoot through. The landscape here is still very brown and bare. The daffidils are a magnet for me due to their bright color. Such a treat to see this time of year. Times like this I think I have hit a wall. Will I ever take another nice photo?!! O-Well... 04/04/2010
Today was not as artistic as last week. Sometimes all the elements in nature come together and all the camera setting are kind to me, and a wonderful composition appears in my view finder. Today was not such a day. I did not spend as much time as I wanted too but that is no excuse. The daffidils are making their appearance all over the island so I tried to capture some on film. But I could not get anything artistic or original out of that outing. So later in the day I tried to capture some color in the sky as the sun set. You got it, nothing I was happy about. Well, they all can't be keepers! | AuthorI have lived here on Martha's Vineyard all of my life. One thing I love is that every day and every hour, the light and weather and seasons are always changing, always making for fun photography. ArchivesFebruary 2012 Categories |
