Whenever I think I have no destination or subject matter to photograph a surprise is always thrown my way. I was heading for a spot I have gone hundreds of times, expecting nothing. As I drove by a place that is usually pretty bleak and empty, something told me to take a hard left and drive down to the shore. Sure enough there, out on the blouders half submerged in the wave wash, were seals!
Now I never see seals around the island in my wonderings. They seem to be fairly rare. But I have seen them twice this week in different locations. And they held fairly still for me, almost posing. Still they were further out then I would like. Just outside my lens range for a great portrait. The tide was low but washing in rather quick. So as I stood on the furthest rocks I could without getting wet, the incoming tide soaked another pair of boots.
Again I had trouble really getting a clear crisp photograph. My subject was just too far out. The overcast sky was almost all white. Causing me to have difficulty in getting a good all around exposure. But I was still swept away in the moment and was thrilled to have all these seals just sitting there watching me, as I watched them!
